Claire's Hospital Stay: Part 5

This morning Claire has been doing very well. She slept great last night and this morning has eaten well and even played well...much closer to her usual self, though not 100% back.

We did meet with the doctor this morning who relayed more details about Claire reflux, which I guess officially is called Vesicoureteral reflux. (We did not meet with a urologist. It's the weekend.)

Claire has a Grade 4 on her left side and a Grade 1 on her right. (One of the better images I've found of the different grades is here.) Now she will most likely grow out of her Grade 1 naturally, and there is even the possibility she could grow out of the Grade 4.

For the time being, Claire will take a daily oral antibiotic (that is after we finish this 10 round of antibiotics to treat the e. coli infection) that will help prevent her from having any more UTIs or blood infections. (The reflux can lead UTIs and lead to the environment that allows the infection to spread to the blood. Like I said previously, it is the root cause of why we started down this infectious path.)

She'll do this for 6 to 8 weeks, and at that time we'll come in for more tests and screening. This will give her little body a little more time to grow and give us a better idea of our treatment options, if any are needed.

So that's what it is and that's where we're headed. We'll post again when we know more (like when we're actually going home) but that's it for now.

Thanks for all your love, thoughts, prayers, visits, and acts of service. They have been a huge help.

Amanda had this reflux when she was born. We didn't discover it until she was about 6 months old. They treated it with antibiotics and she eventually outgrew it.

One of the side benefits of the antibiotics was that she never had ear infections (or tubes).

You're still in our thoughts and prayers.
