Mark and I went to a quaint little outdoor wedding this weekend. It took me forever to find a dress, and I still wasn't 100% pleased with the dress selection for moms to be, but I digress... we had a great time, and it is always fun to see 2 people gather for a life-long committment. I turned into a pumpkin around 8 pm, which was about when it started to rain, so we didn't get to stay for all of the fun stuff, but it was a lovely evening. Mark and I had fun remembering our wedding, and we can't believe how far we've come... are we really in this "next stage"? We sure are, and we are loving it! Here's a pic from the wedding...

McPhotos....Finally!
Well, I have finally gotten around to posting some photos...
Here are 2 of my belly pics so far. (Months 1 and 3)
Here's our First Family Photo as well!
We went to the doctor today, and things are looking great! Excellent heartbeat and no concerns at this time. We are feeling SO BLESSED! We are at 14 weeks now, so just a few more weeks and we'll hopefully know if we are having a "McBoy" or "McGirl"! :)

Written Update... Pictures coming this weekend!
Okay, so I thought I'd post a little update with pictures to follow this weekend. Here is a Q&A of the most asked questions recently that will provide somewhat of an update on the happenings in the McSpadden household...
1. How are you feeling?
Well, I was sick a lot during the 1st trimester-- mainly food aversion, nausea, and a bit of yucky other stuff. Smells are still in high gear. It seems I have the sense of smell of a basset hound... sniff sniff...Mark was really great and patient during this time! Now, I am feeling much better! I'm super tired, but that seems normal!
2. Do you have any cravings?
Cravings... hmmm... well, I have really only craved citrus (applesauce, popsicles, slushies, etc...) and salty/vinegary things. I can't eat grilled chicken- gross, and most veggies are too bitter, but I am forcing the salad down! :)
3. Are you going to find out the sex of the baby?
Yes, we are, but we are trying to decide how we want to find out... The doc said we will go back in 5 weeks (June) and we are thinking that it would be fun to have the doc put it in a box, and wait a month and open it on our anniversary. Either that, or we'll think of some "McSpaddenish" way to tell everyone- ha ha!
4. Was this planned?
Ha ha! Yes.... that's funny....
5. Does it feel real?
Well, I can answer this in 2 ways... 1st do I feel pregnant? I'm in that "fat" stage where none of my clothes fit, but just today, a police officer at the rest. we were eating at said, "Happy Early Mother's Day" to me, and that made my day. I'm starting to show in a lot of my clothes, which is fun. :) Seeing the sonogram and hearing the heartbeat made it more real for both of us- especially Mark. Now, 2nd way to answer- "do I feel 'old enough' to be a mom" ... I keep saying, this isn't really happening, right? I'm not old enough to be a mom... my mom is a mom... but there's no turning back now!
6. How is Mark handling this?
Well, Mark has been great! This process (praise the LORD) was much quicker than we anticipated, so we were both caught a little off guard! :) But Mark has really stepped up and been so patient and helpful around the house. He has said some really cute things about McBaby... In the beginning, he would say, "How's panda rice" and then "panda grape"... when we finally heard the heartbeat, Mark said, "It's sounds like a cappachino machine..." ha ha!
7. Do you call the baby "it" or "peanut" etc...???
Mark's idea (which I love) is that we rotate weeks. He got tired of saying, "he/she" "him/her" and "it," so he decided that each week, we'd pick a gender... that whole week, we'd just talk about things related to that gender for baby: names, fun traditions, etc... It's been really fun... I just hope we aren't confusing the baby! As soon as we know the gender, we'll call it what it is- don't worry!
8. Is Shevawn going back to work?
Well, we prayed a lot about this. I tried to go part time, and that didn't work out, and we decided that I will work next year, with several weeks of maternity leave, and then go back at the end of the year. We are both really excited about the opportunities that we have been blessed with, and we know God will take care of all of those details!
9. Are you sure you aren't having twins? You're a twin, right??
Unless baby "B" is a master at hiding behind baby "A" or has an invisible super power, we are having one... sorry Gramma Shirley-- she keeps asking! :)
10. What's next up for you guys???
Well, Kim will be moving out soon, so we'll be getting a lot of house projects done, Shevawn is finishing up the school year (only 4 weeks left), Mark is working up a storm, we plan on getting Myko in belated dog training, preparing for all things baby, a possible mini-prebaby-vacation, and just plain resting up... we've got a lot to rest up for!
Sorry it's been so long since the last post! I will post our 12 week sono pic and the much anticipated belly pic tomorrow! :)

And here's how Shevawn told her co-workers (although all of the family stories are pretty cool, too)
Some have wondered,
Some have guessed,
So I think it's time to get this off my chest.
With excitement and joy I wish to share...
A baby is coming for which Mark and I will care.
November 15 is the estimated date,
For this wonderful blessing-- we just can't wait!
Love,
Shevawn

A Week in the Windy City
Well, we're back from Chicago! This Christmas, we spent a week in Chicago with all of the McSpaddens because it is Mark's brother's last semester in Med School, so we thought it would be fun to relax and enjoy a white Christmas for once! We had amazing food- pizza (twice), dinner at a jazz restaurant, dinner at the place where the movie Backdraft was filmed, and my favorite place--- A Jewish Restaurant on Christmas Day! :)
When we first got there, we had to pull our luggage through a lot of snow, ice, and water--- not fun! But it was worth it b/c the hotel was beautiful, and it overlooked Michigan Ave. We played games, made a puzzle, went to the Shedd Aquarium, and went shopping. Not to mention, we saw Wicked (my 2nd time!). It was a fabulous time! We feel so blessed! Here are some photos from our trip! Happy New Year to all!

Having a Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas from the McSpaddens!
This past weekend, we went to the annual "Kolendo Cookie Decorating Party," and it didn't disappoint! The Kolendo's new baby, Kaden, was part of the fun (although he won't be decorating cookies for awhile!) We were, again, asked to decorate a cookie to resemble your spouse. This year, we did much better- except for the fact that Mark gave decorated me as wearing a tank top, which clearly I was not! We can't say that for our "couple's tree cookie." I accidentally broke the top of our super abstract tree, so it was 1/2 the size of everyone else's. It became the "Charlie Brown" cookie!
We are both thrilled to have 2 weeks off of work to relax and enjoy the holidays.
We hope to post a lot of pictures from our holiday adventures and house projects! We'll keep you posted!
Holiday Fun!
Here are some favorite things about the holidays for us that we thought we'd share as well:
Mark's Favorites: (these seem like things he likes year round, but when I asked, this is what he said!
1. Fires (we do have a fire place now!)
2. Family (hanging out, eating, games, etc...)
3. Food (meat and candy- you know
your basic food groups)
4. Paid time off (we both appreciate this one)
5. Tying up loose ends (just tonight he cleaned out his email inbox and finished 2 books)
Shevawn's Favorite:
1. Constant reminders of the LORD and his glory!
2. Christmas Decorations (including the tree- it just makes everything so warm and homey!)
3. The fireplace- ours is real, so we get that wonderful crackle and smell- I love it!
4. Reading a ton of books- I cannot wait to get started!
5. Time with family- I feel like I get more opps to see all of my family and catch up... my sister is moments away from having a baby, and I love that I will get to be there for her!
and tied for 5th- NO WORK- yep! I said it! 2 weeks is such a great amount of time to decompress after a tiring semester, so yea, I said it, NO WORK!
What's New this Christmas:
1. Our home
2. Our snuggle pup- Myko
3. The fireplace (it needs a place of its own on the list)
4. Our Christmas tree- usually we get a real one, but now we have an attic!
5. A roommate- Sister Kim (Keith's wife) is living with us until April :) We love her!
Here are some photos of our house- decorated for the holidays ! Merry Christmas!
